Soria is one of Spain’s smallest provincial capitals and is easily explored on foot. It sits on the Duero river and keeps a stone-built old town, quiet squares and plenty of street life.

Highlights

  • San Juan de Duero, a former Hospitaller monastery with a unique cloister of arches in different styles.
  • Hermitage of San Saturio, by the river, reached by a pleasant walk along the bank.
  • Numantine Museum, essential to understand the history of Soria and Numantia.
  • Antonio Machado: the poet lived in Soria and immortalised it in Campos de Castilla. There are routes dedicated to his time in the city.
  • The Alameda de Cervantes and the central streets, ideal for tapas.
