View on map ↗

The Sierra de Urbión, on the border between Soria, La Rioja and Burgos, is one of the most spectacular mountain areas in the province. Pico Urbión, at around 2,228 m, gives its name to a massif with glacial lagoons and pine forests stretching for kilometres.

What to do

  • Visit the Laguna Negra and the neighbouring lagoons.
  • Hike through the pine forests and peaks, according to your level.
  • Explore the villages of the area, such as Vinuesa, Covaleda and Duruelo de la Sierra.

The Duero river is born in this area. In winter there can be snow and conditions are tough: check the forecast and trail status before setting out.
